Hess art benefits LMS
Liz Hess, a popular Lancaster artist and 1983 Lancaster Mennonite High School graduate, is donating art to help fund the art department.
Because Lancaster Mennonite's art program was an important component in her journey to becoming a successful artist, Hess said she is glad to help. In an economy where some schools are cutting visual arts programs, she said Lancaster Mennonite continues to invest time and energy into its program.
Hess is producing a series of vintage vignettes from the school's Lancaster campus. The originals in the series will be sold at the school's yearly benefit dinner and specialty auction.
"Early Years on Campus -- 2010": The original watercolor, along with several limited edition prints, depicts the campus with the Yeates Building in the snow.
"Early Years at the Pond" -- 2011: The original watercolor, along with several limited edition prints, depicts an early ice skating scene at the school's pond, with the familiar 1890 steel bridge in the background.

These special pieces benefit the Kristin Palazzo Visual Arts Endowment, established in 2008 to continue the school's commitment to a strong visual arts program. Palazzo, who died in 2006 when she was an LMS junior, was a gifted artist who got her start in art while a student at the school's Kraybill Campus.
