Fine Arts
Music is an art form expressed in composing, performing, participating and listening, and is an important element in worship. What students experience and explore in music at Lancaster Mennonite School can significantly impact music in the church, cultivating aesthetic enjoyment, social and cultural understandings, and a faith relationship with God. Music experiences, especially in ensembles, promote social as well as personal development. Skills developed in music can be used for a lifetime.
Drama is part of the English Department. As such, it is seen as developing and understanding a form of communication that can be of service in the Kingdom of God. In drama, the written words of the playwright become both seen and heard. As students put themselves into various times, cultures and situations, they begin to understand more about themselves, the world and their values.
Visual Arts enable a student to observe, explore, and respond to life through many media and design skills. Discovering the creative process can draw one to the ultimate creator--God. Art courses cultivate reflection, criticism, and aesthetic sensitivity to cultural expressions worldwide. This awareness and appreciation for all of God's earth and people lead to constructive creativity and career choices which nurture our global society.
