Local Scholarships

  • The John Ryan Memoiral Award - for seniors who plan to pursue post-secondary education after high school. Applicants must have been adopted or be a current foster child through Lancaster County Children and Youth Agency. An essay and 2 letters of recommendation are required. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2011.
  • Lancaster County Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association – for seniors who have been accepted to and plan to attend any branch of the Pennsylvania State University. Students must have a minimum score of 1000 on the SAT. Applications can be accessed on-line at: http://psulancaster.com/scholarships.html. An official transcript and essay are required. One additional scholarship is available based on financial need. If you plan to apply for this award, a copy of your parents’ 2010 income tax return must be included as well. The deadline to apply is April 2, 2011.
  • Albright & Thiry Scholarship - for seniors who are past or present patients of Albright & Thiry Orthodontics. The deadline to apply is April 22, 2011.
  • The Brossman Scholarship – for seniors with a 2.5 GPA or higher who reside in the Denver and Ephrata service area of D&E Telephone. Three references, a copy of your parents’ 2010 tax return, a copy of your EFC letter (after filing the FAFSA) and a brief essay are required. The deadline to apply is April 16, 2011.
  • The Wolf Foundation Scholarship – for seniors who reside in Ephrata Borough or Township who plan to pursue higher education after graduation. A copy of parents’ 2010 tax return and a copy of the EFC letter are required. The deadline to apply is April 16, 2011.
  • Donegal Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution – this is a $2500 scholarship for a Lancaster County senior who plans to further their education after high school. An essay, official transcript, and a recommendation from your guidance counselor are required. The deadline to apply is April 15, 2011.
  • Lancaster County Community Foundation – for 2011 graduating seniors. Two scholarships are available for Lancaster County seniors:
    The Joseph and Claudine Hess Scholarship – for any Lancaster County graduate who plans to pursue post-secondary education.
    The Charles W. Shoff Fund – for graduates planning to major in Geology, Medicine, Agriculture, Mechanical Engineering, or Mechanical Drafting.  Scholarships are available at: http://lancastercountyfoundation.org/Scholarships
  • Hartz Physical Therapy – for a student planning to pursue a career in the field of Physical Therapy. Deadline to apply is March 25, 2011.
  • The Lancaster County Farm & Home Foundation Award - for seniors who plan to further their education in the areas of Agriculture or Family and Consumer Sciences. A letter of recommendation from a guidance counselor or principal and a copy of parents’ 2009 and 2010 tax returns are required. All paperwork must be received by April 15, 2011.
  • Lancaster County Association of Family and Consumer Sciences - for a graduating senior who plans to pursue a degree in the FCS field of study. An essay, transcript, and two letters of recommendation are required. All paperwork is due by March 30, 2011.
  • The Gerald Fortney Memorial Scholarship – for a graduating senior who is a LANCO Federal Credit Union member or the child of a LANCO member. Must be planning to attend college and plan to earn a bachelor’s degree in a Business-related field. In addition to the application, two letters of recommendation and a transcript are needed. All paperwork must be received by April 1, 2011.
  • Dollars for Scholars – interest-free loans are available to graduating seniors who are legal residents of Lancaster County. In addition to the application, you must also send a copy of the first 2 pages of the 2010 income tax return on which you are claimed as a tax exemption. All paperwork must be received by April 30, 2011.
  • Delta Kappa Gamma Scholarship – for a graduating female who plans to major in the field of education at an institution of higher learning. One letter of recommendation, a transcript, and a short biography are required. Applicants must have a permanent address in Lancaster County. All paperwork must be received by April 1, 2011.
  • Towne Club of Lancaster – for seniors planning to attend in a technical or vocational school after graduation. The application, a formal yearbook photo, and a transcript are required. All paperwork must be received by March 15, 2011.
  • PA Dutch Convention Hospitality Scholarships – for Lancaster County seniors who plan to pursue a degree in a travel or tourism related major. You must have a 3.0 GPA or higher. An essay, two letters of recommendation and a transcript are required.  The deadline to apply is April 1, 2011.
  • LanCo Conservation District Ann Brown Memorial Award- for seniors who plan to pursue a degree which focuses on natural resources and/or conservation. Some examples are:  Wildlife/Fisheries Biology, Environmental Science, or other related programs.  A resume, transcript, copy of college acceptance letter, an essay and a letter of recommendation are required.  The deadline to apply is March 31, 2011.
  • Jr. League of Lancaster Deb Altman Volunteer Award – for students in Lancaster County between the ages of 16 and 19 who have demonstrated exceptional interest in volunteer work.  Two essays, an adult reference form, and a guidance counselor form must be submitted.  The deadline to apply is March 25, 2011.
  • HACC Lancaster Campus Distinguished Scholars Award – for Lancaster County residents with a 3.0 GPA or higher who enroll full-time at the Lancaster Campus of HACC.  The deadline to apply is April 1, 2011.
  • The Strathmeyer Scholarship-  for senior athletes who have a minimum of a 3.3 GPA and a 1060 combined SAT (Critical Reading and Math) and who have been accepted for admission to college.  Eligible candidates must have also achieved one of the following:  First team All Star in any PIAA sport ; or varsity starter on a league championship team; or championship title in an individual sport such as sectionals, districts, or states.  A transcript and essay are required.  The deadline to apply is May 21st. 

National Scholarships

  • Healthy Lifestyles Scholarship (Deadline: April 30, 2011)

    This $5000 scholarship is open to students currently enrolled as high school students or first-year college students. To be eligible for this award you must be under 25 years of age and answer both of the essay questions.

  • Dial My Dentist Scholarship Program (Deadline: May 6, 2011)

    This $1000 scholarship is available to students between the ages of 16 and 21.  In the fall of this year (September 2011), the student must be attending College or University full-time.

  • S.S. Scholarship Program (Deadline: June 1, 2011)

    This $1000 scholarship is available to any student that is 21 years or under, as of June 1, 2011.

  • Big Dig Scholarship (Deadline: June 1, 2011)

    This $3000 scholarship is for students who submit an essay that is under 1000 words and are currently in high school or in their first two years of college/university.

  • 2011 ICBC Scholarship (Deadline: June 15, 2011)

    This $1000 scholarship is open to students that are between the ages of 17-21 that are residents of the US or Canada.  A student can be enrolled or intending on enrolling in any course of study in the fall semester of 2011.
