High School Drama: Charley's Aunt
The Lancaster Mennonite High School fall drama, Charley’s Aunt, is set for Thursday through Saturday, November 19-21, 7:30 nightly in the Fine Arts Center.
Charley and Jack, two students at Oxford University, are at the end of the college term and ready to propose to their girlfriends – Charley to Amy and Jack to Kitty. However, in Victorian England, they will need a chaperone to carry on this romantic gesture. Fortunately, Charley’s aunt, Donna Lucia D’Alvadorez, a wealthy widow from Brazil who Charley has never met, is planning to visit. Perfect! However, when she cancels her visit at the last minute, the two young men become desperate. They convince a friend, Lord Fancourt Babberly, to disguise himself as the aunt and act as their chaperone. To complicate the matter, Jack’s father and Amy’s uncle show up unexpectedly, both having heard of Donna Lucia and her wealth. Since they are widowers, they decide to woo “Charley’s aunt.” The competition between the two widowers to persuade “Charley’s aunt” to fall in love with them becomes even more complicated when the real aunt arrives and finds someone in her place.
Don’t miss this hilariously funny farce that has been tickling the funny bones of audiences for over 100 years.
Admission is $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for students. For tickets call (717) 299-0436, ext. 340. Tickets will also be sold at the door.
