2008 Dining Experiences
For a truly unique, memorable dining experience, nothing beats a private chef in a private setting. For 2008, Kraybill families and their friends have put together the following experiences that can be found nowhere else. All of these dining experiences were sold on Saturday, May 10 at 11:00 a.m. with the exception of the Summer Ladies Tea. The auction committee is working on another good selection for 2009.
| 1. Tea for the Ladies
Lisa Hershey (mother of Colleen, Nicholas and Faith) has graciously offered to host a high noon tea in her home. This tea will include a fabulous luncheon for six lucky ladies. The menu consists of: salad, homemade scones with Devonshire cream and lemon curd, specialty quiche, fresh fruit and assorted pastries. You will be served at a very comfortable pace so that you and your guests can just enjoy fun and fellowship without feeling pressured or hurried. Relax and linger over tasty teas as you spend quality time with mothers, daughters, sisters, special friends or co-workers. Any lady would be thrilled to receive a gift like this one! 2. Experience a Night in Ethiopia for Ten Having learned from her grandmother who prepared food for Haile Selassi I (an emperor of Ethiopia), Etayehn Zenebe was responsible for cooking for her family from the time she was 13 years old! She does not use any written recipes…..only her own experimentation and observation skills that she has gained from working with excellent cooks. Etayehu searches out the most wholesome (organic) local ingredients) to provide the most nutritious and tasty meal. If you are not satisfied that this meal will be authentic, just wait until she serves you in her traditional Ethiopian dress and asks you to feed your loved one a bite (gursha) with your hands! Brad and Natalie Wagner (parents of Roman) have agreed to host this very special experience in their home and would be thrilled to have you and your party as their guests! As an extra bonus for the lucky buyer, this meal will be served with a selection of lovely homemade wines provided by Andre and Linda Azaroff (parents of Kayla). 3. Low Country Boil Style Crab Feast for 10-12 Guests You have heard of it and now it is here! Jeff Wenger of Gene Wenger Meats will cook and serve his crab feast dinner (which is so much more than crab) for your outdoor picnic! With each ingredient timed perfectly, Jeff (father of Brendan& Morgan) cooks this hearty mixture in boiling water over an open flame. When it is just right, he lifts the strainer and dumps it out on paper table cloths for all to enjoy! Included in the kettle are snow crabs, shrimp, clams, sausage and your choice of corn on the cob or potatoes! Jeff will also serve baby back ribs as a side dish to his smorgasbord! 4. “Off to the Orient”…..The Last Time! Mel Andricks (mother of Lesley) has agreed to offer a taste of the Orient one last time! This meal features eight courses of gourmet Chinese cuisine. Treat your guests to a cultural experience that is not normally found in Lancaster County! Be the high bidder on this package and you will have something to talk about for years to come. 5. Fine Dining at the Wolgemuths! Ooo La La!!! If you appreciate fine dining and would much rather be in the comfort of someone’s beautiful home than a stuffy restaurant……..this is the package for you! Chef Randy and Betsy Wolgemuth (parents of Tierney, Colin & Jillian) have graciously offered to host a six course meal at their home for your party! The entire Wolgemuth family gets involved with this one by helping to host, prepare, and serve their guests. The entire evening is definitely a” five star” experience and you are sure to leave their home with fond memories and a satisfied palate! Menu is as follows:

6. “Flying South for the Dinner” Scott Shenk, FAA rated pilot and father to Brian, Aria and Joshua will be treating you and 3 guests to a flight in a private plane. The journey will take you South to Kent Island, Maryland where you will be treated to dinner at the Kent Manor Inn. On the way home you will get a different perspective of God’s creation as you take in a beautiful sunset from an all new altitude! Give your friends a real treat when you offer to fly them to dinner this summer. It will definitely be an experience they will never forget! 7. “Soup of the Month” prepared by KMS Administration & Faculty! Some very familiar and gracious KMS ladies have offered to share their love of cooking with your family. Throughout the months of October through March your family will receive one hearty soup meal delivered to your home on a preset date and time. The cooks will contact you to make sure the soup will meet with your family’s approval. There is nothing quite as comforting as a bowl of homemade soup made by a friend! 8. Dessert Buffet for 15-20 Guests Once again, gracious KMS moms have offered to treat your family to one of their yummy specialties! The lucky buyer will receive a luscious homemade dessert buffet prepared by Lolly Kratz (mother of Hannah, Josiah, and Nathaniel) and Mary Beth Will (mother of Katie and Lauren). The desserts will be delivered to you and set up (including table service) just in time for your party! A big “thanks” goes out to these moms for sharing their gifts with us! 9. Pig Roast by the Pond for Twenty
John and Joyce Wagner (grandparents of Roman Wagner) are hosting a pig roast at their unique and very beautiful Manheim property. You and your guests will enjoy roast pig with Joyce's special barbecue sauce, baked beans, potato salad, coleslaw, relishes and a variety of desserts! If you like, take a dip in the pond or simply relax and take in the beauty. Sold as a package for 20. To be scheduled before May, 2009. |
10. “Old Fashioned Corn Roast” with Two KMS Families Bob and Sharon Hess (parents of Travis, Philip and Ethan) along with and Mike and Lori Rohrer (parents of Andrea and Mitchell) are hosting a family-oriented “Doggie and Corn Roast” at the Hess Farm on Rock Point Road. Come, relax and enjoy the simple pleasure of a true country style summer picnic with all of the fixin’s including fresh squeezed lemonade! Up to thirty guests will be able to take part in volleyball, quoits and children’s activities. Some guests may decide to just sit back and relax in the gazebo and admire Sharon’s lovely gardens and koi pond. And you don’t want to leave too early because you would miss the traditional roasting of marshmallows and making s’mores around the fire! 11. Peters’ Barbecue Chicken or Ribs for Thirty Dennis Peters has generously offered to supply your party with his famous barbecue chicken or ribs. Delivered to you hot, this entrée is finger-licking good! Please schedule as soon as possible because Dennis’ calendar is filling up quickly. And, yes, this is the same barbecue chicken that is served at our own KMS auction! Sold as a package for 30 people. Event date: Mutually agreed upon date. |
12. “Tee for 8” at Par-Line Golf Course It’s tee-time for you and 7 guests at Par-Line Golf Course. Play 18 holes then finish off the day with an excellent dinner served to your party in the pavilion. This package is a classic and has always proven to be lots of fun! 13. Lancaster County Authentic Amish Meal Sit alongside Brad and Natalie Wagner and enjoy a real Amish meal. Sam and Linda Glick (friends of the Wagners) of Manheim are opening their home to four new guests on this one special occasion! The Glicks are currently raising their nine children ranging in age from 1 to 17 years old on their homestead. The dinner will begin with the traditional chicken and mashed potatoes and end with that yummy Strawberry Danish Dessert!
