EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM

Full-day Pre-kindergarten

  • Full-day program (8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.)
  • 2 days per week (Tuesday & Thursday)
  • Students must be age 4 by September 1.

Full-day Kindergarten
  • Choice of full-day kindergarten program 5, 4 or 3 days per week
  • Success-based curriculum blends academic and developmental approaches.
  • Students must be age 5 by September 1.

Elementary School

  • Emphasis upon basic educational skills, habits and knowledge
  • Classes are self-contained except for physical education, music, Spanish and art.
  • Technology integration K-8; formal computer keyboarding instruction starts in fourth grade.

Middle School (Grades 6-8)
  • Leadership development through student council, sports, and other opportunities for middle school students
  • Spiritual life emphasized by formal Bible classes, chapel services and special programs

Spiritual Life

  • Elementary students receive daily Bible instruction using the Journeys with God Bible curriculum.
  • Scripture memorization K-8
  • Middle school students attend Bible class twice each week.
  • All students attend a weekly chapel service.
  • All teachers are committed to integrate Christian faith into all subject areas.

Athletics

Teams are organized in cooperation with the Lancaster Campus and compete in the Lancaster-Lebanon League.  Practices and games can occur at either campus; a shuttle bus is available to transport athletes between campuses.

  • Boys teams: soccer, basketball, cross country
  • Girls teams: field hockey, soccer, basketball, cross country
  • Elementary & middle school physical education classes
  • Mennonite Sports Organization provides athletic opportunities for students in grades PreK-6.

Technology/Computer Integration
  • Integration emphasis K-8
  • K-3 students have group access to the computer lab.
  • Weekly computer lab instruction for students in grades 4-8 integrates technology and learning.

Fine & Performing Arts

  • Music specialists for both  elementary and middle school
  • Musical programs involving every student in grades K-5; drama for students in grades 6-8.
  • Instrumental music lessons are available for students in grades 3 through 8.
  • Junior band and strings  for grades 4-5
  • Middle school band, strings, choir and hand-bell choir
  • Art classes for all grades
  • Participation in interscholastic fine arts competitions

FACULTY & STAFF
  • Teachers are certified and have bachelor's or master's degrees.
  • Specialists for special education, art, music, physical education

STUDENT BODY DIVERSITY

  • 236 students in PreK- grade 8
  • More than 20 Christian denominations are represented.
  • Approximately 48% of the students are from Anabaptist-related congregations.
  • 26.3% of students are from under-represented racial/ethnic groups.
  • Students come from twelve  school districts: Conestoga Valley, Eastern Lancaster County, Ephrata Area, Hempfield, Lampeter-Strasburg, Lancaster City, Lebanon, Manheim Central, Manheim Township, Penn Manor, Pequea Valley and Solanco.

HOT LUNCH PROGRAM

The Lancaster Campus caters a daily hot lunch for Locust Grove students, which is eaten in classrooms.

SUPPORT SERVICES

  • The Learning Support Program enables students who learn differently to participate in regular education within the classroom.  The Learning Support staff partner with classroom teachers to ensure that curriculum, instruction and evaluations are flexible.  If best for the student, the Learning Support Room provides  small group instruction in math and language.
  • The Challenge Program is designed to better meet the needs of academically gifted students.
  • On-site remedial specialist provided
  • On-site speech therapist provided

Location

Locust Grove  is located on a 12-acre  campus along the Old Philadelphia Pike, just 2 miles from downtown Lancaster and one mile from the Lancaster Campus.

Transportation

Public school districts whose borders are within 10 miles of Locust Grove will provide district residents with transportation between the district and the Locust Grove Campus:

  • Lampeter-Strasburg
  • Lancaster
  • Manheim Township
  • Penn Manor
  • Pequea Valley
  • Solanco
  • Warwick

Please contact your public school district for details about their non-public transportation policies and schedules.

PreK students cannot be transported on buses.
