New Danville News & Announcements
Turbine Transport Affects New Danville
Dear New Danville Parents/Caregivers:
You may have heard in the local news that Three Mile Island is replacing its steam generators. The Areva Transport Project is the massive undertaking to move two generators 75 miles from Port Deposit, Maryland, to Three Mile Island. The move will most directly affect Lancaster County from September 14-30.
The convoy of vehicles will be one mile long and it is scheduled to pass in front of the New Danville Campus along Long Lane on Friday, September 18. We look forward to a special assembly at 8:45 on Thursday morning, September 17, when a representative of the transport company will make a presentation about the project to students. Parents are invited to join us.
THIS MOVE WILL INVOLVE CLOSURE OF LONG LANE and other roads along the way for most of the
day on September 18. It means that bussing will not be provided by Penn Manor, Hempfield or Lampeter Strasburg before or after school.
THE BACK ENTRANCE WILL BE OPEN FOR TRAFFIC ON THAT DAY and you may drop off/pick up children at the back parking area by the ball field because the driveway on the side of the school is only a single lane. Teachers will supervise students there at the beginning and end of the day.
More details about this project will be shared at PARENT ORIENTATION THIS THURSDAY EVENING
SEPTEMBER 10, at 7:30 p.m. We look forward to seeing you then.
Sincerely,

Judi Mollenkof
Principal
