In May, the Lancaster Mennonite High School tennis team, assisted by Dr. Ann Bybel, mother of tennis player Nick Bybel, collected over 50 pairs of worn-out sneakers for Nike’s re-use-a-shoe program. The green project grinds up and reuses old sneakers to make all-purpose surfaces for track or basketball, thus preventing the shoes from ending up in a landfill. When Nike requested a photo shoot with a local official, the team invited Senator Brubaker for the occasion.
