Divison 1 Athletic Scholarships Awarded

Principal Miles Yoder celebrates with Jaclyn Gyger on the signing of her athletic scholarship to University of Richmond.

Lancaster Mennonite High School seniors Jaclyn Gyger and David Denlinger have been awarded athletic scholarships to attend Division I schools.

Gyger, daughter of John and Karen Gyger, Lancaster, will play field hockey for University of Richmond. All four years at LMH Gyger helped her team win their section championship (co-champions in 2008) and advance to state play. In addition, as a junior she helped her team win the Lancaster-Lebanon League Championship.

Denlinger, son of Deryl and Joan Denlinger, Lancaster, will attend Charleston Southern University for golf. He was the 2008 state golf champion, the first for Lancaster County since 1988. He also helped his team win the district team championship in 2005 and the section championship all four years.

David Denlinger won the individual state championship this past fall, marking the school’s third state title in 18 months (girls soccer in June and Lindsey Shertzer’s 1,600-meter track and field title in 2007).

Gyger and Denlinger join Katelyn Vanderhoff, basketball, and Jordon Smucker, baseball, who will attend University of Maine and Binghamton University, also Division I schools. Their athletic scholarships were announced in the fall.
