Lancaster Mennonite offers 20 merit scholarships for incoming ninth-grade students
Lancaster Mennonite High School is offering 20 merit-based scholarships of $1,000 each for the 2010-11 academic year. The Ninth-grade Merit Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic excellence, exemplary character, and leadership in the school, church and community.
To apply, applicants must submit a transcript or report card, references and an application by February 15 to the admissions office of Lancaster Mennonite High School. Scholarship applications may be obtained here or through the office of any Lancaster Mennonite School campus.
Eighth graders transferring from other schools as well as those already enrolled at Lancaster Mennonite are encouraged to apply. Children of current Lancaster Mennonite School faculty or staff are not eligible.
The Ninth-grade Merit Scholarship will be awarded to the top 20 applicants, regardless of financial need. Need-based scholarships are also available for the 2010-11 school year.
In addition to an excellent academic record, successful applicants must have positive references from the principal or guidance counselor of their current school and from a church leader such as a pastor, youth pastor or Sunday School teacher. These reference persons must affirm that each applicant is involved in youth activities and the local congregation, “lives out faith in a Christian life of integrity,” reads widely, and has a global perspective in addition to a good attitude and work ethic.
The scholarship application asks students, “As you consider your own gifts and abilities, what do you bring to strengthen LMS and make it a better school?” and “What are your goals in life, and how do you see yourself contributing to the life of Christ’s church and society?”
The high school serves about 650 students in grades 9-12. Lancaster Mennonite has three other campuses: Kraybill Campus, grades pre-kindergarten through grade 8; Locust Grove Campus, pre-kindergarten through grade 8; and New Danville, pre-kindergarten through grade 6.
