Vanderhoff named Female Athlete of the Year

Lancaster Mennonite’s Katelyn Vanderhoff has been named the Lancaster Newspapers Female Athlete of the Year. This honor has gone to an LMH athlete four of the last five years—Kristin Groff (Lititz) in 2005, Lindsey Shertzer in 2007, and Kelsey Gorman in 2008.

  • In field hockey, Vanderhoff helped her team reach the District 3 Class AA championship game for the second year in a row.
  • In basketball she finished her career with 1,548 points and earned a full athletic scholarship at the University of Maine, a Division I program. She helped her team capture their first Lancaster-Lebanon League championship, reach the District 3 championship, and advance to the state quarter finals.
  • This spring the recent graduate helped the Blazers soccer team win the section title and reach the league, district and state playoffs. The defending state champions lost to league rival Donegal in the state championship game.

LMH freshman Nick Bybel was named Lancaster-Lebanon League Player of the Year for boys tennis and first team All-Star for Section 2. He was undefeated in the L-L League season and then won the L-L AA title in straight sets. He also won the District crown, taking all four matches in straight sets. He finished 3rd in the state.

In Section 4 baseball, Dave Adams received first team L-L League  and Section All-Star honors. Also receiving first team Section All-Star honors: Jon Lapp, Andrew Martin and Jordan Smucker. Jason Sauder received second team Section All-Star honors.

In Section 4 softball, Kaitlin Brubaker and Bria Klase were named first team Section All-Stars. Emely Hess, Kaela Landis and Lillian Mozloom were honorable mention.

In Section 2 boys volleyball, Zach Smith and Justin Lapp were named Section All-Stars—Smith for second team and Lapp for third team.

In boys track, Matt Hostetter was named a first team L-L League All-Star for long and triple jumps. Hostetter won silver and fifth-place medals at the District III level.

In girls soccer:

  • Katelyn Rittenhouse and Katelyn Vanderhoff were named L-L League All-Stars.
  • Katelyn Rittenhouse was named to the Section 4 Academic Team
  • Katelyn Vanderhoff was Section 4 MVP
  • Coach Dale Stoltzfus was Section 4 Coach of the Year.
  • Section 4 First Team All-Stars—Katelyn Rittenhouse, Katelyn Vanderhoff, Kori Wenger and Taylor Wenger.
  • Section 4 Second Team All-Stars—Rachel Kennel and Steph Miller.
