Looking Ahead for:
Kraybill Campus
Christmas Project
Donations toward the repair of Carol Cooke’s house in Onalaska, Texas, damaged by Hurricane Rita, will be accepted until Friday, December 21. Kraybill campus adopted the Christmas Project of raising funds for Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS) volunteers to repair her home. The project was selected as one way for our students and families to share God’s love with someone in need during this Christmas season. If your family has not yet contributed toward our goal of $6,000 to repair Carol’s house, the school invites you to do so by December 21. Checks can be made out to Lancaster Mennonite School—Kraybill Campus and marked for the Christmas project.
Achievement Testing January 3–9
Results of your child’s test will be available during spring Parent Teacher Conferences. See complete note in All Campuses section.
Parent Support Groups
Two Kraybill parent/caregiver groups are currently meeting for times of prayer, fellowship and support. Both groups invite additional parents to join. The Moms in Touch group meets each Thursday morning from 9–10:30 at Martha Garber’s house, 535 Bruce Ave., Mount Joy. Childcare is provided. For more information call Twila Sauder at 653-6519.
Parent to Parent meets several times a year, focusing more on parenting issues.Parent to Parent has meetings planned for January 11, 25; February 8, 22; and March 7 from 9–11 a.m. in the Kraybill Campus Meetinghouse.
All parents are welcome to attend both of these gatherings in support of our school community. Participation in a sharing group is an excellent way to feel connected to the school and find valuable support as a parent.
Pizza for lunch on Wednesdays
January 9 through March 5, students in grades 1–8 may order Personal Pan Pizza every Wednesday. Tickets can be purchased at the Kraybill Campus office for $9 for 4 pizzas with either cheese or pepperoni toppings. Orders will be taken Tuesdays beginning January 8 for the Wednesday delivery. Only whole tickets (for four pizzas) will be sold.
Hoagie sales
Site Council members supported installing a DVD projector and computer in the Meetinghouse using 25% of next spring’s hoagie sale receipts. Kraybill Campus has the option to designate hoagie sale money specifically for a campus project. The bulk of the hoagie receipts will be used to help fund the renovation project connecting the middle school to the gymnasium. Last year’s hoagie sale receipts of $22,000 went to purchase new playground equipment.
Bus driver needed
Applications are being accepted for a bus driver beginning August 2008. The school will cover expenses for training and bus certifica- tion if the applicant does not already have a bus driver license. Contact John Weber at 653-5236 or weberjs@lancastermennonite.org.
Absentees
Beginning third quarter, reporting absentees by parents/caregivers will be done by calling or e-mailing the school on the day the child is absent. This new arrangement, endorsed by the Kraybill Site Council, will eliminate the use of excuse cards. Further information and instructions will be sent home after the holidays. Calling or e-mailing the school will also eliminate the time needed for school office staff to contact and remind families to send in the excuse card after a student’s absence.
Basketball Season Underway
The 2007-08 season began in early December with an away game at Lititz Christian. Again there has been strong middle school interest in basketball requiring the formation of two girls and two boys teams (“A” and “B” teams). Parents and friends are invited to come out and support the players. Coaching this year are: boys A, Vernon Heagy; boys B, Jay Wagner; girls A, Karen Rheinheimer; and girls B, Keri Detweiler and Ken Schildt. Let’s pray that our coaches and players have a successful and safe season.
Parents/caregivers: any student staying after school to watch a game must have a signed parent permission note and be under the supervision of parents or caregivers.
