Looking Ahead for:

Kraybill Campus

Parent-teacher conferences
Scheduling of parent-teacher conferences are underway for this fall. Thanks to each family that returned their preference form on time. School will be dismissed at 12:00 Tuesday, November 6, and Thursday, November 8, for conferencing in the afternoon and evening. Parents and caregivers in the following districts will need to arrange transportation home on all early dismissal days: Hempfield, Manheim Central, Penn Manor, Eastern York, and Lower Dauphin. Please come to the rear gym doors for pick up. Due to construction, the normal gym entrance is blocked off to students and adults.

Construction has begun
Construction has begun on the Kraybill Campus gym/middle school connector which will include an art gallery dedicated to Kristen Palazzo. It should be completed by January 1. With 80% of the $220,000 construction costs in cash and pledges already in hand, the Board agreed to move ahead with the renovation. The project will improve the security of the entire school. Additional capital contributions are still needed to complete the renovation.

New playground equipment appreciated
The new elementary playground equipment installed this summer has become a favorite play area, especially for primary grade students. Parents, students and all who volunteered to help sell and make hoagies last March can take much satisfaction in knowing the funds raised to purchase the equipment is benefiting our students.

Hoagie funds
Kraybill Site Council met in September and encouraged using a portion of this year’s hoagie money for another project, yet to be determined, to benefit the students. The council further agreed that about 75% of the hoagie funds go for renovating the school lobby.

Race for Education October 19
The event is again expected to draw a good number of parents, grandparents and friends to cheer on the students as they run around the track to fulfill their pledges. Final figures are not yet available; however, total receipts are expected to exceed $100,000 again this year. As a campus we have been blessed with dedicated volunteers and especially the committee of Karen Rheinheimer, Holly Noll, Jeanne Wivell and Renee Hernley who have given many hours of work to make the fundraiser a success. Our thanks to the committee for helping to provide a Christ-centered education for our students.

Service Learning
Service Learning took place October 9 for students in grades 6–8. Each year all middle school students spend a day volunteering at a local service agency. The day of service provides a hands-on experience to express Christian faith in action. Following Christ includes both a belief system as well as practical expressions of love and service to our neighbor. Along with service, all middle school students take a Bible course, with scripture memorization, that meets twice a week. The school’s Faith and Nurture Committee, comprised of faculty, administration, a parent and a minister, coordinated the day’s events. Places of service include Landis Homes, Ten Thousand Villages, Global Aid, Network Warehouse, Paxton Street Home, Brethren Housing, Friendship Community, Ephrata Resource Center, Philhaven, New Hope Church, and EMM Discipleship Center.
