Superintendent’s note
Earlier this month I completed several terms of service on the Strategic Planning Advisory Committee of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA), a national accrediting body that accredits schools in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey and New York.
Members of the committee give advice and counsel to MSA and read reports written by school visiting teams. These reports serve as the basis for the committee to recommend to the MSA commissioners whether or not a school should be accredited. MSA has helped LMS continue to grow since its initial accreditation in 1977. The school’s “Validating the Vision” study two years ago was part of its re-accreditation process.
MSA accredits public schools, private non-sectarian schools, and many different Christian schools. Each school educates students according to its beliefs, values and mission—developing a distinctive ethos and educational purpose.
During my years on the committee I read hundreds of visiting team reports about schools, their plans for growth, and how they do or do not meet MSA standards. This experience renewed my appreciation and commitment to the distinctive mission of Lancaster Mennonite School.
May God give us courage to continue being a school that is distinctive because of the way it follows the teachings of Jesus. LMS: Centered in Christ, Transforming Lives, Changing Our World.
Shalom!J. Richard Thomas
