Eighth Grade Recognition
Family and friends are invited to attend the eighth grade recognition on Thursday, May 29, at 7 p.m. We welcome seventh grade parents to help provide refreshments (cookies and punch) following the eighth grade recognition and an eighth grade parent to host an 8th grade party later the same evening. Please contact Brenda Bare at barebl@lancastermennonite.org or (717) 299-0436, ext. 399. The party could occur in the school gym, at a student’s home or other location chosen by the hosts.
Middle school yearbooks
You may still order a yearbook that captures the events and people of this year. The cost is $29. Contact Mrs. Coale.
Sixth graders visiting zoo
The sixth grade class will visit the Baltimore Zoo Wednesday, May 28—the culmination of the social studies unit during which the class did a research project on the wildlife of Africa. The visit will include a one-hour guided tour of the Africa exhibit and allow for visiting other areas with chaperones. The day before, the class will discuss what goes into the building, maintenance, and workings of a zoo. The class is creating a virtual zoo online with the animals they researched. Go to www.virtualzoo.wikispaces.com.
Eighth grade field trip
A field trip to Philadelphia Federal Reserve and other Philadelphia sites is planned for Grade 8 on May 6. A walking tour of the Independence Hall area is included. Students should wear walking shoes. We will leave at 8:30 a.m. and return at 8:30 p.m.
Sophomore social
The Spring Sophomore Social is scheduled for Friday, May 2, at East Lampeter Park on Hobson Road. Activities, including a picnic supper, will run 4–8 p.m.
Safety at Route 30 light/use of south drive
Please remind your teenage driver to always double check before pulling out onto Route 30 as he/she exits campus and to yield to drivers who have the right of way. Students are encouraged to use the south drive to the campus when possible. It is open from 7:30 a.m. until after sporting events are over in the afternoon or evening. There is a 4 ton (8,000 lb.) limit for drivers crossing the auto bridge.
Recycle your ink jet cartridges
The LMS chapter of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is collecting ink jet cartridges to recycle as well as to earn money for FBLA. Please place your cartridges in the collection boxes in room 114 or 118.
Minicourses
The high school is looking forward to the community-building minicourses planned for May 27–30. Please make a special note if your child’s minicourse includes additional days and what forms or financial arrangements are needed. If questions, please contact Duane Evans at (717) 299-0436, ext. 389.
Yearbook delivery and sales—still time to order!
The 2008 Laurel Wreath will be distributed soon to students who ordered books. To order, give your cash or check of $45 to Jane Moyer, Lydia Ramer Hunter, Seth Charles, or the office and make sure to include the student’s name with payment. Checks should be made payable to Laurel Wreath—LMS. Or purchase online at http://www.jostensyearbooks.com/ using your credit card. Enter the state, city, and school name.
Junior-Senior Banquet
The Junior-Senior Banquet will be held Friday, May 9, at Willow Valley Palm Court (doors open at 5:00, final seating at 6:25, buffet dinner begins at 6:30). The guest policy and dress standards were mailed to parents of juniors and seniors and were also given to students with their invitations.
Guests need to obtain a yellow form from Mrs. Engle and submit the information before purchasing a ticket. Students or guests who fail to follow the policies specified will not be admitted. It is also possible that extremely late arrivals may not be seated or served. Tickets will be on sale through April 25 (none available after that).
Students need to bring their RSVP cards to school with payment ($33 April 14 to 19, and $35 April 21 to 25). All students, on or off campus, need to make arrangements to purchase tickets during that time. Please write checks for the exact amount. Do not include payment for the post-banquet which is separate from the school-sponsored banquet. Tickets MUST be presented upon arrival at Willow Valley.
Any student who did not receive this information should see Mrs. Engle ASAP. For more information, call Mrs. Engle at ext. 417.
Post-banquet event—help still needed!
The post junior-senior banquet committee needs plenty of help from parents for this year’s event scheduled for May 9. Parents of juniors and seniors should have received a mailing from the committee asking for volunteers. Please return the response section to Miles Yoder at the school. Forms can be still be returned! If you have questions, please contact a committee member or Mr. Yoder at (717) 299-0436, ext. 302. Thank you for the good response for this important evening.
