Superintendent’s note
On February 10, I participated in the dedication of the Kristin L. Palazzo Gallery at the Kraybill Campus—for me a moving event. Kristin attended Kraybill Campus and then LMH. She died in the fall of 2006 while in her junior year.
Kristin was a dedicated Christian, excellent student, talented artist and teen role model. This hero of faith has now crossed to the heavenly realm and is part of the cloud of witnesses described in Hebrews Chapter 12. We celebrated her life in the building dedication and now want to preserve her story to invite future generations of students to holistic growth.
The dedication was also a time to reflect on the LMS commit- ment to the arts and holistic education, at a time when some schools are cutting back on recess, art, music and other important areas in order to increase their emphasis on testing. At LMS we also provide time for Bible classes and chapel or classroom devotions. The dedication reminded me of the LMS commitment to educate the whole child and the community support we receive for this vision.
Our students’ college entrance examination scores, along with feedback from recent graduates, informs us that caring about the whole person not only improves test scores; it also prepares students for life after their PreK–12 educational experience.
We pray that this gallery and the story of Kristin will continue to inspire a Christian vision for future generations of elementary and secondary students. We believe this vision is an LMS distinctive worth our celebration and investment.

ALL CAMPUSES
Applications for next year/openings in all grades
Students who have not yet returned their registration forms for the 2008-09 school year are encouraged to do so as soon as possible. Please encourage prospective students to consider the opportunities at Lancaster Mennonite’s four campuses.
Prospective Student Day
March 27 is a Prospective Student Day at all campuses. This is a day for prospective students to consider the faith-infused opportunities of an excellent education at LMS. Times are 8:05–3:05 a.m. for the high school and morning only for other grades. Applications for scholarships and financial aid
Scholarships and financial aid must be applied for each year. Applications were sent home with the 2008-09 registration form in December. Additional applications are available at the school offices or on the school’s website, www.lancastermennonite.org. Current families should apply (pink form) no later than April 18. The purpose of financial aid is to make attendance at LMS available to all families, regardless of income. Please note that your 2007 federal tax form (Form 1040) is the one that is needed for this year’s application. If you sent your 2006 federal tax form, please send in your 2007 form as soon as it is completed. Form 1040 is required before financial aid will be awarded, due to EITC requirements. TRACK AND FIELD FACILITY
By Heidi Stoltzfus, director of advancement
So far, $405,000 has been contributed toward a new track and field facility at the Lancaster Campus. Our goal is to start this project as soon as possible. We need you, our community, to let others know why this is needed for our students. A track and field program can accommodate many students, and it encourages healthy life styles. Yet, we are the only school in the league who cannot host or practice at our own facility. Currently our students must go to Lampeter-Strasburg and practice after LS practices. This makes for some late evenings for our students.
Please encourage persons to give; an additional $550,000 is needed before groundbreaking can occur. This year the Iron Bridge Run/Walk raised over $33,000 to help the project. Thank you for participating in that event! Next year it will be held in September, so start thinking now about who can sponsor you as you run or walk.
If you’re interested in giving, have ideas of others who might support the project, or have questions, please contact Heidi Stoltzfus at (717) 394-7107 or stoltzfushe@lancastermennonite.org
