Lancaster Campus
Quiz Bowl playoffs
The Quiz Bowl League playoffs are set for after school Monday, Feb. 25, at Manheim Township. Parents are welcome; just sign in at the school entrance. As of Feb. 10, the team was 11-4 and in 4th place in the 21-team league.
Fellowship of the Spring
This year the annual trip to Spruce Lake will include both 7th and 8th grade students from the Locust Grove and Lancaster campuses. The dates are May 27–29 and the cost is $80. Please note that these are required school days. We look forward to a great time of learning and fellowship.
Science and Engineering Fair
The Lancaster Newspapers Science and Engineering Fair will be held at Franklin & Marshall College March 18 and 19. Middle schoolers Isaac King, Chloe Mattilio, John David Satriale, and Katerina Warren are entered in the fair.
Science Olympiad
The Regional Science Olympiad will be held March 12 at Millersville University. This national event, in its 24th year, incorporates all branches of science in an Olympic-style competition. We will send both middle and high school teams.
Talent Show
The high school Student Council will hold a “Menno Night Live” talent show Monday, February 25, at 7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center. The show will include comedy, band performances, other music and skits. Admission is $4.00 for adults and $2.00 for students. Please direct questions to adviser Tim Yoder at (717) 299-0436, ext. 380. Parents and other community persons are invited to attend.
Friday Morning Bible Study event planned
Friday Morning Bible Study is planning a Friday evening activity March 14, 6-10 p.m. in Alumni Dining Hall. Anita Keagy will be leading a JoyShop. The evening’s intent is to provide inspiration and techniques for spending more time reading and studying the Bible. $5.00 per person will be collected to pay for the take-home materials. Parents are welcome.
Senior Parent Appreciation Night
Senior Parent Appreciation Night is Tuesday, March 18, at 7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center. Students were asked to submit baby and senior pictures before Christmas. If your student did not, please have him/her do so immediately. This is for a slide show on March 18. Details will be sent in the mail.
It’s not too late to buy a yearbook
The price for a 2007-08 yearbook is $45. Give your cash or check to Jane Moyer, Lydia Ramer Hunter, Seth Charles, or the office and make sure to include the student's name with payment. Checks should be made payable to Laurel Wreath—LMS. Or purchase online at http://www.jostensyearbooks.com/. Enter the state, city, and school name and use your credit card to order.
Keyboarding competency
Students graduating from Lancaster Mennonite High School should have skills in keyboarding and computer applications. Ninth graders enrolled in English 9 second semester who are not enrolled in a keyboarding class were given a test to determine their competency in keyboarding. If your child was tested, you should have received a mailing giving the results and recommended class(es) for your child to schedule for next school year. If your child was missed in the testing process, you may have your child tested by contacting business teacher Verlen Rufenacht at (717) 299-0436, ext. 406.
Junior-Senior Banquet/Post Banquet event
The Junior-Senior banquet is scheduled for Friday, May 9, at the Willow Valley Palm Court. A letter concerning banquet protocol, dress expectations, and the guest policy will be mailed to parents of all juniors and seniors in March. Guest approval forms (required) are available from Mrs. Engle in room 208. Invitations will be distributed in March, reservations will be taken April 1-4, and tickets sales will run April 7–25.
