Superintendent’s note

In a devotional at a recent school board meeting, Paul Zehr talked about the philosophy of an LMS education. He described it as focused on Jesus, holistic, and one that values spiritual formation and educational excellence.

Recently we received the the high school SAT scores (college entrance exam) and noted that they confirm academic excellence at LMS. The SAT has three sections—critical reading, math and writing—with a perfect score in each section being 800 points.

The scores of our students increased since last year and are consistently higher than those at the local, state and national levels. For comparison:

Lancaster Mennonite School (USA students only) 1,692
LMS (all students including international students)  1,647
Lancaster County Public Schools  1,517
Pennsylvania Average  1,478

The LMS founders insisted on academic excellence and positive spiritual formation. That tradition continues to shape us as we partner with you in this holistic mission in education.

Shalom!
J. Richard Thomas

All I Really Need to Know ...
The high school fall drama, All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten, is set for Thursday through Saturday, November 13–15, in the Fine Arts Center. Curtain time is 7:30 each evening. Admission is $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for students. For tickets call (717) 299-0436, ext. 340. Tickets will also be sold at the door.

Though the play begins by taking the audience back to their pre-school years, it quickly moves on to life experiences that many of us have encountered. During the performance, audiences will meet an array of colorful characters including Donnie, the deaf leaf-raker; Fred, who is suffering from Alzheimer’s; Sigmund Wolman, a survivor of Auschwitz; and a mother who takes over the planning of her daughter’s wedding. Fulghum’s homespun wisdom reaches out and touches the heart of everyone. The Chicago Sun-Times called the drama “a refreshingly intimate combination of theatre and storytelling— gentle, funny, joyous.”

Fall Festival & Homecoming—Thank you!
