1985 Class Reunion

The class of 1985 held their 25th year reunion in September. Over 75 people gathered under beautiful autumn skies at Jon (’85) and Karen Gish’s home overlooking the Susquehanna River in Wrightsville, PA.

When the planning committee (Sharon Landis Hess, Sheila Esch Kauffman, Denise Miller Martin, Jan Steffy Mast, Lori Good Rohrer, Janae Martin Smiley) approached Jon and Karen about hosting the event, Jon offered to sponsor the evening and invite class members to donate money toward two classmates serving in missions overseas. The committee loved the idea and set about planning an internationally-flavored meal and building the night around informal visiting and giving beyond ourselves.

We were privileged to have one of the missionaries present at the reunion. Ron (’85) and Regina Shultz, and family, recently returned to Virginia after serving six years under Eastern Mennonite Missions in Cusco, Peru. Ron was administrator at Promesa, a bilingual Christian school that he was instrumental in starting in 2005.

We were also delighted to view a personal video greeting and presentation prepared for us by Jeannie Hershey Hartsfield (’85), her husband Pat, and three children. The Hartsfields are serving with World Team in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Over $2,000 was collected to bless these classmates and their ministries overseas.

In addition to hearing from Ron and Jeannie, the evening included a “Trip Down Memory Lane” power-point presentation of old class photos set to music from the 1980s.

Class members also contributed to a reunion booklet that was distributed that evening and included current photos, reminiscing, predictions, and personal interests.
