Because of the importance of learning an instrument, instrumental music lessons are now required for all students in grades 4 and 5, with the exception of the Hershey Campus. However, not all students have easy access to instruments. Aside from the financial challenge for some families, some of the larger instruments present a transportation hardship even if a student’s family could afford a marimba, timpani, xylophone or bass drums. Therefore, it is important to have an inventory of good school-owned instruments on hand at each campus.

Lancaster Mennonite School is seeking donations of all types of band and orchestra instruments to be used at all campuses. The school has a budget for instrument repair and also has a contact that will accept several damaged instruments in exchange for a good one. If you do not currently have an instrument to donate, please considering buying used instruments you may see at garage sales and flea markets at a low price. Again, these can be re-conditioned or, if only good for parts, be part of a trade for a good instrument.

If you would like to make a donation, please email Nathan Sheffer, director of instrumental music, at shefferno@lancastermennonite.org.
