In-Person Extracurriculars & After School Activities Paused Until January 4, 2021

Greetings LM Families,
It was announced by Governor Wolf last Thursday, December 10, that all in-person extracurricular school activities and sports at K-12 schools be paused until 1/4/21. Extracurricular activities includes musical ensembles, school plays, student council, clubs, and school dances. School and youth athletics includes all sports at K-12 public schools, nonpublic schools, private schools and club, travel, recreational, intermural, and intramural sports.
That means that all athletic practice and games and in-person extracurriculars are paused until 1/4/21, and in-person after school activities like New Danville’s Luminary Walk and the High School musical are cancelled. However, virtual activities, like Chess, can continue, and we are coming up with creative ways to do future extracurricular activities, like an outdoor Spring Showcase in April for drama.
It is very unfortunate that we are unable to have students participate in these activities, and we are grieving with our students, families, teachers and coaches at this loss.
NEW Plan for New Danville Luminary Walk:
The New Danville Campus’ will instead have a “Children’s Luminary Walk” with students during the school day (in the gym with lights out) on Wednesday, 12/16. The Christmas Program video will be emailed on Thursday, 12/17 evening to watch as a family at home. If possible, sponsored luminaries will go home with students before Christmas break to display at your own home. Any extra funds from sponsored luminaries will be donated towards New Danville financial aid.
Update for athletes who test positive for COVID-19:
There is a return to play protocol that must be completed before returning fully to sport. This includes a cardiac exam from a physician and steps that incrementally increase in duration and cardiac output. Please contact Miss Ann, Athletic Trainer at seatonar@lancastermennonite.org with any questions. It is important that you stay in communication with the high school office and Miss Ann about symptoms and COVID testing, even over the break and virtual school.
Good News & Congratulations!
Let me end with some good news for once! This past weekend LMH had five students audition for the 2021 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 7 Band Festival. Four of our high school students placed high enough, earning them a seat in the ensemble. Congratulations to Owen Horvath (bass clarinet), Rebecca Stoltzfus (flute), Claire Thomas (french horn), Emma Wilson (french horn). Emma Wilson placed second overall, which also earned her a seat in the D7 Orchestra Festival!
This year’s total tops last year, which saw three band students participate. To our knowledge the past two years are the highest years for LMH’s involvement in PMEA instrumental festivals.
A big congratulations, and please join us in celebrating with these students!
Sincerely,
Dr. Pam Tieszen & The Pandemic Response Team
