4th Grade, LM Spanish Immersion teacher, Karen Maddox, is offering 3 full weeks of Spanish Immersion Camp, and 2 mini weeks for older children, each with a different theme. Choose one or register for as many as you want!

Camps are open to anyone, but is it recommended that participants have at least one full year of Spanish Immersion in the classroom or speak Spanish in the home, since all activities will be led in Spanish.

During full week camps, students will also enjoy two outdoor recesses and a variety of activities each day. Students will need to pack a lunch and snack.

This camp is open to rising 1st-6th graders, and we need a minimum 10/maximum 24 participants. The cost is $180 per week. The camp runs from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. each day. Register by May 15th for a $15 discounted. And there is multi-child discount of $15.

June 1-5,  Games, Games and More Games: Want to practice some Spanish while having a lot of fun? We will have all the games and activities led in Spanish. There will be board games, card games, charades, Pictionary and gym games each day.

Spanish Immersion Camp Week 2

4th Grade, LM Spanish Immersion teacher, Karen Maddox, is offering 3 full weeks of Spanish Immersion Camp, and 2 mini weeks for older children, each with a different theme. Choose one or register for as many as you want!

Camps are open to anyone, but is it recommended that participants have at least one full year of Spanish Immersion in the classroom or speak Spanish in the home, since all activities will be led in Spanish.

During full week camps, students will also enjoy two outdoor recesses and a variety of activities each day. Students will need to pack a lunch and snack.

This camp is open to rising 1st-6th graders, and we need a minimum 10/maximum 18 participants. The cost is $200 for the week, additional cost because of the EXTRA special field trip to Dinosaur Park, MD!  The camp runs from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. each day. Register by May 15th for a $15 discounted. And there is multi-child discount of $15.

June 8-12, Dinosaurs: Come learn about the era of Dinosaurs. We will interpret what life was like for these creatures though student created presentations. First, students will learn, and then create a presentation to share with family and friends on Friday afternoon!

FIELD TRIP: Join us in unearthing the prehistory of Prince George’s County at Dinosaur Park! This Maryland park preserves a rare deposit of fossils from the early Cretaceous Period. Come to Dinosaur Park to meet paleontologists, learn about and see an active fossil site for dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals!

June 15-19, Travel Through South America: Senora Maddox, along with Senora Campos, Chilean LM Locust Grove Kindergarten Spanish Immersion Teacher will co-teach children about traditions, geography, culture, food, flora, fauna, and music from different countries in South America. We will use our imaginations to travel to Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina and Brazil each day with a passport to fill. In addition, they are going to learn about the flag, map, and important facts about each country as they practice their Spanish. Family and friends are invited to see what we’ve learned on Friday afternoon, 2:30-3 p.m.

June 22-23, Mini-Week 4 – To Make and To Serve: The students will make crafts and gifts our first day at Locust Grove. The second day we will go out into the community and give our gifts, our time and our love to others in the community.

June 29-30, Mini-Week 5 – The Great Commission Go Out & Serve: The students will spend two days in the community giving our gifts, our time and our love to others in the local Spanish-speaking community.

Garden-To-Table Camp

Monday’s Theme: Colors of the Garden – We’ll make natural tie dye from fruits and vegetable to make customized aprons! Kids will learn basic kitchen safety needed for making their own vegetarian lunch each day.

Tuesday’s Theme: Plant Parts – We’ll read the story “Tops and Bottoms” and have a scavenger hunt for the parts of plants that we eat. After watering, weeding, and harvesting veggies from our garden, children will make a “plant parts salad!”

Wednesday’s Theme: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – Children will make their own watering cans from recycled materials so that they can water our garden and their own plants at home. They’ll also create new “seed” paper from recycled paper that they can plant at home!

Thursday’s Theme: Herbs – After exploring the smells around our garden and harvesting fresh herbs, children will make herbal playdough and fresh tea. Children will prepare a pizza lunch using fresh herbs.

Friday’s Theme: Pollinators – We will take a short walk to our neighboring orchard to learn about the work of pollinators and to pick our own fruit. Children will end the week with a “Pollinator Celebration Meal” that highlights the importance of pollinators to our food systems.

Kids French Cooking Camp

Join us for this fabulous kids’ cooking camp with instructor, Mrs. M. Kids will first learn safety in the kitchen, as well as knife skills to give them confidence in the kitchen. Every student will make their own dishes to taste, but also have enough to take home! Some possibilities include creme brulee, clafoutis, quiche lorraine, French crepes, yogurt cake, and beef bourguignon.

Let's Play Music! Camp

This full-day camp will have students playing instruments, and also building their own ukuleles and creating arrangements for xylophones and glockenspiels. Students will also explore basic skills on recorder. Campers will receive their own recorder and will leave the week with the ukulele they have built! Please bring a packed lunch.

Kids Can Sew Camp

Learn how to sew with instructor, Mrs. M. Students will learn how to hand and machine sew.  Some of the projects they may make are designer pillowcases, pajamas, market bag and more! Sewing builds confidence, as it takes planning, focus, patience, and endurance to begin and see a project through to completion.

Backyard Science Camp

Calling all backyard scientists! Enjoy discovering the wonders of backyard science by exploring and experimenting with biological science, chemistry, earth and space science, and physical science. Please pack your own lunch.

Robotics Camp

The participants will build and learn to program Vex V5 robots using C++ text. Participants will use smart motors, sonar, remote controllers, and a claw arm to perform tasks. No previous experience in coding necessary. The ratio of students to robots will be less than 2:1. Robot kits can be purchased at VEX V5 if the participant wants to work on their own robot. Please pack your own lunch.

Songs, Games & Dances Camp

Participants will experience various songs, games, and dances from around the world. T-shirt included with registration. Campers will need to pack a lunch.

Urban Hike in NYC

Join us as we travel to New York City on an Elite coach bus. Our hike will start with a ride on the Staten Island Ferry to Manhattan. We will hike north from Battery Park to Central Park, making stops at the 911 Memorial Park, Times Square, and St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The hike will end in Central Park. We will hike 7+ miles. We plan to attend the Brooklyn Tabernacle Church Prayer service at 7 p.m. before returning home.
