Dr. Barlet is excited to join the team at Lancaster Mennonite, serving as an ESL/ELD Specialist through the IU13! She received her D.Ed. from Penn State University in 2014, where her dissertation work in the field of Adult Education focused on leadership-centered involvement opportunities for culturally and linguistically diverse parents of students within the K-12 setting. Dr. Barlet holds two master’s degrees from Millersville University in the areas of Leadership for Teaching and Learning and Language and Literacy. Her bachelor’s degree, earned at Bucknell University, is in Elementary Education with concentrations in ESL and Spanish.

Dr. Barlet previously worked as the Supervisor of Multilingual Learning for Manheim Township School District in Lancaster, PA. Prior to that, she was an ESL Supervisor, ESL Specialist, and Reading Specialist for the School District of Lancaster.

In addition to her current role as an ESL/ELD Specialist, she serves as an adjunct instructor for courses within the ESL Certification Program at Eastern Mennonite University (Lancaster Campus). She is passionate about teaching multilingual learners and learning about the many languages and cultures represented in our community.

Katelyn is a technically trained dancer, singer and actor, and approaches her work with the understanding that the heart of a person is equally as important as the technique they possess. She has been a working theater educator in the Lancaster area since January of 2019. Her professional experience includes Choreographing LM's productions of Godspell, Annie, Stop Time, Rhythm of Life, and Creative Pursuits Academy’s production of Mary Poppins Jr., as a faculty member for Viktor Yeliohin's International Ballet Academy (VYIBA) and the resident choreographer/teacher for the VYIBA Junior Performance Company, holding the position of Associate Director of Theater at Veritas Academy, working as a teaching artist through Gretna Theater at the New School Montessori, and guest teaching various masterclasses throughout the Lancaster region. Her performance credits include dancing in a work she choreographed called “Hideaway” in “With Hope: a local choreography showcase”, The Music Man and My Fair Lady with Servant Stage and Ancient Future (Polyphone New Musical Theater Festival 2018) with The University of the Arts, and worked collaboratively as a dancer in Chasing the Moon with the ENA ensemble. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theater from The University of the Arts. Being a child's advocate and helping students reach their full learning potential is my greatest joy in the classroom. I like to help students think for themselves and become strong, resilient, contributing citizens! I also like to have fun with my students and discover together new and exciting ways to learn.

My family and I have traveled the world and lived overseas for many years, with most of our time spent in Asia, and most recently, the South Pacific. During those years I taught in international schools and enjoyed working with a very diverse student population in both American style international schools as well as the British PYP international baccalaureate school systems. I have taught every grade in elementary and enjoy teaching at each stage of growth for children. He has led curriculum development in his prior district for over ten years, helped to integrate restorative justice models into school classrooms, and has led many restorative meetings with staff, parents, and students. He has guided his previous school through accreditation and served on numerous accreditation teams. He has run HR in his school system for the last 11 years.

Prior to working in administration, he served in many roles, including as a K-12 music and Bible teacher, drama director, and IT support. She received her D.Ed. from Penn State University in 2014, where her dissertation work in the field of Adult Education focused on leadership-centered involvement opportunities for culturally and linguistically diverse parents of students within the K-12 setting. Dr. Barlet holds two master’s degrees from Millersville University in the areas of Leadership for Teaching and Learning and Language and Literacy. Dr. Barlet previously worked as the Supervisor of Multilingual Learning for Manheim Township School District in Lancaster, PA. Prior to that, she was an ESL Supervisor, ESL Specialist, and Reading Specialist for the School District of Lancaster.

In addition to her current role as an ESL/ELD Specialist, she serves as an adjunct instructor for courses within the ESL Certification Program at Eastern Mennonite University (Lancaster Campus). She began her teaching career at an international elementary charter school in Atlanta, GA, working with refugee children. Heather has spent most of the past 13 years teaching at two different elementary bilingual schools in Mexico. She has also studied and did volunteer work in the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Cuba, and the Tex-Mex border. She loves sharing her passion for the Spanish language and its accompanying, diverse cultures.
