Students working on crafts
Our Kindergarten-2nd grade students did a Project-Based Learning unit addressing the question: “How can biomimicry help us find solutions to human problems?” To answer this question, students studied plant and animal structures (tree roots, spider webs, and polar animal fur) and explored how they can inspire human-made structures (towers, bridges, and insulated buildings).
Students brainstormed and constructed prototypes of their designs then shared them with a panel of local professionals in STEAM fields, engineers, building contractors and construction professionals, to receive feedback. Students redesigned their prototypes, and integrated the feedback they received into their final structures, which were then on display for the school community to view.
