Teachers from LM’s Spanish Immersion program attended the AATSP American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese annual conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico this summer. They also had the opportunity to visit the two Mennonite schools on the island – Academia Menonita Summit Hills in San Juan and Academia Menonita Betania in Aibonito. Jenn Esbenshade, Director of Curriculum, also participated in an administrative panel discussion as one of the conference sessions.
Señora Kaczor said, “Making time for connections and just going with the flow can be a blessing as well! What was most meaningful for us was not always planned or written down, but often just happened. The island of Puerto Rico is so beautiful and the people are so proud of their identity. I overheard a conversation during our flight that the island is always your home, even if you were not born there. A memorable experience was swimming just after dusk in a luminescent bay, with sparkling water all around and bright stars above.”
