For Lancaster Mennonite senior and Ethiopian international student Feven Workalemahu, a recent trip to Florida offered an experience that was truly out of this world.
Through Attollo, a college preparation program that Feven participates in, she traveled to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, where she toured the facility and experienced the excitement of a NASA launch firsthand.
On August 29, Feven had the opportunity to watch NASA’s Roman Space Telescope launch aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket from Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Complex 39A. The experience gave her a behind-the-scenes look at one of the world’s most recognizable space facilities and the incredible work taking place there.
For Feven, the trip was more than an exciting opportunity to see a rocket launch. As a high school senior preparing for her next chapter, experiences like this allow her to explore new possibilities, meet people from different backgrounds and imagine what might be possible beyond high school.
Attollo is designed to help students prepare for college and develop the skills, confidence and connections they need to pursue their goals. Opportunities such as Feven’s trip to Kennedy Space Center are part of the broader experience of learning that happens beyond the classroom.
As an international student from Ethiopia, Feven has already experienced the value of stepping into new places and learning from different cultures. Her time at Lancaster Mennonite has continued that journey, connecting her with a community rooted in Christ while preparing her for life beyond high school.
Standing at Kennedy Space Center and watching a powerful rocket carry NASA’s Roman Space Telescope into space was certainly a memorable way to experience the possibilities that lie ahead.
