Lancaster Mennonite School is proud to celebrate senior Bill Rothwein for being named the 2025-26 male recipient of the prestigious A. Landis Brackbill Lancaster-Lebanon League Senior Scholar-Athlete Award. LM senior Chase Hurst was also recognized as a nominee for the distinguished honor.

The Brackbill Award is presented annually to one male and one female student-athlete in the Lancaster-Lebanon League who demonstrate excellence in academics, athletics, leadership, and community involvement. Each school in the league may nominate two students who exemplify those qualities.

Rothwein’s selection marks a historic moment for Lancaster Mennonite, as he becomes the first male recipient from LM in school history. Former LM student Jess Rheinheimer received the female honor in 2012.

Bill was honored during the Brackbill Awards Banquet held Wednesday, May 20 at the Eden Resort in Lancaster, where recipients received plaques and scholarships from the Manheim Touchdown Club. The award is named after A. Landis Brackbill, former Penn Manor principal and the first executive director of the Lancaster-Lebanon League.

A standout student-athlete, Rothwein graduates from LM with a 4.31 weighted GPA and ranks second in his class. He is also a member of the National Honor Society, Senior Class Committee Co-President, and will attend Penn State University’s prestigious Schreyer Honors College.

Throughout his high school career, Rothwein earned nine varsity letters across basketball, golf, and baseball. He served as a two-time golf team captain and helped lead the Blazers to numerous accomplishments, including section championships, district titles, and a PIAA state basketball championship during his freshman season. This past winter, he also helped lead the boys basketball team to its first Lancaster-Lebanon League championship.

In an article from LNP | LancasterOnline, sports writer Jeff Reinhart described Rothwein as “the ultimate teammate, glue guy and big brother,” reflecting the impact he made both on and off the court.

“I’ve learned so much from all of these experiences,” Rothwein shared with LNP | LancasterOnline. “The hours and hours of studying or working out. So, it’s an awesome, awesome feeling to see it culminate and come together in an award that means more to me than just receiving a plaque.”

Lancaster Mennonite is also proud to recognize Chase Hurst for earning a nomination for the award. His leadership, dedication, and accomplishments as a student-athlete reflect the values and excellence celebrated by the Brackbill Award.

Congratulations to Bill and Chase on this outstanding recognition and for representing Lancaster Mennonite with excellence, humility, and integrity.
