It was such a joy to welcome pastors, ministry leaders, and mentors to campus on Wednesday, October 22. Our Annual Pastor’s Day Breakfast brought our largest crowd in recent history with over 70 attendees from 50 different churches!
There was time for networking and connections among pastors as they ate breakfast, followed by a short program by LM. Middle School and High School student panelists shared about how they are living out our school theme of being “Rooted in Christ” in a variety of ways this year. And elementary students came and sang “Rooted and Grounded,” a favorite chapel song they are learning this year. How beautiful it was to hear pastors and students singing these words together.
Rooted and grounded in love
I pray you may be
Rooted and grounded in love
Rooted and grounded in love
Students then got the chance to spend time at tables with their pastors, connecting and sharing about their days.
We were so glad to also welcome Gishu Jebecha, Principal of Meserete Kristos Seminary and Desalegn Abebe, President of Meserete Kristos Church from Ethiopia for the day. These two leaders in the Ethiopian Mennonite Church were visiting in the U.S. and participated in our Pastor’s Day, spoke in high school chapel, shared in Bible classes where they interacted with high school students about the history of the Ethiopian Christian and Mennonite church, their intentional peacebuilding efforts, and ways their church is growing and flourishing, and had a chance to connect with our local and international Ethiopian students.
Lancaster Mennonite School has a long history of having Ethiopian students at our school since the 80’s, and we have a number of families and faculty/staff that have personal connections with Meserete Kristos Seminary and Meserete Kristos Church and have volunteered or lived in Ethiopia. So it was such an honor and joy to have them visit and share with us for the day as part of our broader faith community!
It is a gift to partner with faith communities and families in nurturing students to grow personally, academically, and as disciples of Jesus. We are so thankful for each pastor who loves and cares for students on their journey!
Please enjoy the photos from the day!
