Last week, our school community came together to celebrate Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) Week — a joyful and meaningful reminder that small, intentional acts can make a lasting difference.
Students and staff participated in themed dress days, a Kindness BINGO challenge, service projects, and daily encouragement designed to cultivate compassion both inside and outside the classroom. This year, we were especially excited to have our middle school join in the celebration alongside our elementary students.
Kindness in Action
Throughout the week, students embraced creative themes that connected fun with purpose:
- Teamwork Tuesday: Students wore sports jerseys or LM gear and partnered together to complete acts of kindness. Our second graders even worked as a team to help clear snow from the playground — demonstrating that kindness sometimes looks like lending a helping hand.
- Shine Bright Wednesday: Bright colors and sparkles filled the hallways as students practiced giving sincere compliments to classmates and teachers, learning that when one person shines, it lifts others up as well.
- Positivi-tee Thursday: Students wore shirts with encouraging messages and wrote thank-you notes to special adults at school, expressing gratitude for those who invest in their lives each day.
- Color the World Friday: Each class dressed in a designated color, creating a vibrant display of unity across campus.
Serving Beyond Our Walls
As part of the week’s service focus, students created and sent more than 300 Valentine’s Day cards to residents at Trillium Place (formerly The Mennonite Home), sharing messages of encouragement and joy with members of our broader community.
Kindness BINGO Challenge
Students and staff also participated in a Kindness BINGO challenge, completing acts of kindness at school and at home. Separate boards were created for students and staff, reinforcing the importance of being positive role models. Participants were encouraged to complete the entire board — or at minimum, one row or column — and submit their finished cards for a random prize drawing.
Daily morning announcements, read by students, included kindness quotes and reminders to look for opportunities to serve others. Surprise kindness gifts throughout the week added an extra layer of encouragement and fun.
While Random Acts of Kindness Week may last only a few days, its impact extends far beyond. Through teamwork, gratitude, and service, our students are learning that kindness is not just an event — it’s a way of life. Moments like these reflect our commitment to live compassionately and to put our Christian faith into action, demonstrating Christ’s love in tangible ways within our school and throughout our community.
