T.H. Culhane, a world-renowned expert in renewable energy, visited the Locust Grove and Lancaster campuses of Lancaster Mennonite School on Monday, May 2. A National Geographic Emerging Explorer, Culhane has pioneered the development and deployment of renewable low-cost home and community energy production tools. His work has been featured in national Geographic, Scientific American and other publications.

Dr. Culhane spoke to grades 3-6 at Locust Grove and met with high school and middle school classes on the Lancaster Campus to demonstrate his “biodigester” and teach about renewable energy. Biodigesters use kitchen waste and toilet waste to provide methane gas power for buildings and fertilizer for urban gardening. Culhane has installed these digesters at four sites in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
