Jasper will be the first in his family to complete 12th grade and graduate from high school.
Having spent most of their lives in a refugee camp in Thailand, Jasper’s parents faced many challenges, but education was always a top priority for them. After completing their own schooling in 10th grade, they passed along the gift of learning by teaching younger students in the refugee camp.
Jasper was just a few years old when the family was finally resettled in Lancaster.
Thirteen years ago, Jasper walked through the front doors of Lancaster Mennonite as a PreK student who spoke basic English.
With the support of their congregation at Habecker Mennonite Church, Jasper’s parents made significant sacrifices to
ensure that he and his two younger brothers would receive an excellent education in a Christ-centered school.
In this deeply nurturing community, Jasper began to thrive – learning more English, making new friends, and developing interests.
Jaspers’ story is a beautiful reminder that when we join together, we can shape the future of young people. Futures that are grounded in faith in Jesus and continual growth.
Jasper shares, “My favorite part of LM is the community. The students and teachers here are so supportive, and I feel like everyone celebrates each other’s gifts.”
“Whether it’s in drama productions, chapel, or classes, I’ve been encouraged to grow— not just academically, but also in responsibility and in my Christian faith.”
This summer, at Habecker’s church retreat, Jasper was baptized.
“LMH Bible classes with Mr. Sauder were especially important to me and really helped me understand my faith, which led to my baptism this year.”
Jasper’s journey of faith and growth won’t end when he graduates. He is eager to continue on this trailblazing path into college. He hopes one day to become a teacher himself, one who will, in turn, influence the faith and leadership development of future students.
Jasper Baunee '26 is fulfilling the dreams of his family.
