Greetings LM Parents & Students,

With last week’s announcement regarding the closing of school buildings until the end of the academic year, we are working quickly to make decisions regarding end of year activities and getting personal items to families. We know this change raises more questions and concerns. We appreciate your patience as we formalize the details on those plans and do our best to make decisions as quickly as possible – but know we are working on it!

Included below are the latest round of updates we have about remaining activities for this year and school schedules – more information will be coming soon as we keep processing available information.

Current Updates

Academics & Last Day of School
We intend to continue operating based on our existing school calendar. We will continue delivering remote education on a four-day schedule, with Fridays serving as a work or flex day. The last school day in the academic school year is Friday, May 29th.

Teachers of grades 6-12 will continue to assess coursework for the duration of the academic year and assign course grades for the 4th quarter. Teachers of grades PreK-5 continue to assess student skill development through school work completion and conferencing, and students will receive modified report cards for Trimester 3.

We will not administer a spring session of the MAP Growth assessment.

Student Personal items
This week LM faculty and staff are developing a schedule to start bagging the personal belongings of students still remaining in their lockers or desks. We will have only specific authorized school employees enter lockers or collect personal items to maintain as much care and privacy as possible. It will take a few weeks for staff to safely collect these items, and then have them ready for families to pick up. Once they are ready we’ll inform you of the pick-up time for each campus when you can safely collect personal belongings.

if you have specific questions or concerns, please reach out directly to the Principal at your campus.

Remaining Activities & Events
All activities and events are being processed on a case by case basis. However, you can plan that most school events are effectively cancelled, such as but not limited to: Spring sports, instrumental and choral music concerts, track and field days, and drama/plays.

For some events we hope to find remote alternatives, such as but not limited to: special chapels, awards celebration, senior presentations, service day, etc. In addition, we are talking about options for a summer commencement ceremony and senior celebration, pending improvement in the health crisis. We want to find special ways to honor those graduating and having big milestones.

The LM Events calendar page on the website will continue to be updated to reflect those changes. Click the “See Events Calendar” button below for the full schedule of upcoming events and updates on our website calendar.

Virtual Open House

We have moved our planned in-person Spring Open House for April 19 to a virtual open house. Interested students, parents and guardians are welcome to join us for a “live” Virtual Open House Event hosted via video conference on May 7, 6:45pm, where they can hear first-hand from our Admissions Director and Principals about LM, see photos and 3 campus overviews, and ask questions.

If there are persons you think should check out LM, please forward this information to them or let Admissions know to reach out to them. Thanks!

Celebrating Education

LM is committed to providing quality education to the best of our ability and support families. Education, faith development and being resilient is a gift, not a mandatory requirement – and we want to celebrate that during this difficult time. We know as families you are carrying a heavy load, and so we continue to thank you for partnering with us in this educational experience we are creating together.

We continue to hold you and your families in our prayers as we love beyond distances!

Grace and Peace,

Dr. Pam Tieszen

Superintendent
